From the Streets to a Home Mentor Training - March 16, 2013

From the Streets to a Home Mentor Training - March 16

The From the Streets to a Home program gives a path to housing stability for those who are struggling with homelessness. Since 2009 this program has helped over 400 women, men, families leave the streets and have a place to call home. With the stability of a place to live folks can begin to address the causes of their prior homelessness. The Circle of Care, a component of From the Streets to a Home, needs more mentors: men and women who will commit to being part of a team that gives 2 hours a week to connecting with and walking with the "newly housed".

If you are interested in this program, the Mentor Training will be held Saturday March 16 from 10:00am-2:00pm (lunch provided) at The Community Inn, 824 Winchester Rd.

They are looking for 30 new, committed adult volunteers for this program. Training includes learning about the program, the barriers faced by the homeless, and thow the program reduces the suffering of homelessness. Registration is limited; for more information or to sign up contact the Catholic Action Center, caclexky@insightbb.com, or call 859 514-7210. For more information in general, visit their website: www.godsnet.info

Delta Sigma Phi Chili Cook Off - Feb 23

Delta Sigma Phi Chili Cook Off - Feb 23

The Delta Sigma Phi Chili Cook Off is a fundraiser on February 23rd in the campus center gym, from 1:00 to 3:00. Contestants will cook the best chili they can muster and our esteemed panel will judge it and decide the winner. It is $15 to enter and $5 to come and eat all the chili you want. Proceeds go to the American Red Cross, and last year the event raised over $500, so we're expecting a good crowd again. Music and entertainment will be provided by Transy students. This event is limited to the Transylvania community (students, staff, faculty, administration, parents, alumni.) It is especially important to get parents and alumni involved because students have limited access to cook at school. Any questions or interests should be sent to Kevin Moore, the Delta Sigma Phi Service Chairman at ksmoore16@transy.edu .

If your group is interested in participating in this event, plan to attend the meeting on Monday, February 25 at 3:30 pm in the CARE House. For more information, contact Karen Anderson, kanderson@transy.edu or 233-8182.  Little known fact: in 2011, Transylvania’s Great American Cleanup crew found an injured baby bird during the clean up and took it to the Lexington Humane Society.
