Special Olympics
Kentucky 2013 Scarf Project
Special Olympics Kentucky is seeking 500-700 knitted or
crocheted scarves for the athletes, coaches and volunteers at the 2013 State
Winter Games. You can make scarves on your own or join in on the scarf-making
events on Friday, September 28 and Monday, October 8, 11:30 am to 1:30 pm in
Room #1 of the CARE House. If you don’t know how to knit or crochet, we will
teach you. You will need to provide your own yarn and tools for this project.
Here’s a little more about what they want:
·
Scarves should be
made of either Red Heart Super Saver Brand yarn (no. 312 in black and no. 400
in grey heather) OR Red Heart Soft Brand yarn (no. 4614 in black and no.
9440 in grey heather) Also bring No.8 (5 mm) needles to knit or No. 19 (5.5 mm) hook to crochet.
·
They should
measure 54 to 60 inches long and six inches wide
·
There are no
restrictions on design except that both colors must be used in each scarf.
If you choose to make scarves on your own, the Office of
Community Service and Civic Engagement will collect scarves on October 12,
November 12 and December 12 to take to SOKY. Check out the Lexington
Herald-Leader article by Merline Davis about the need for this project. For
