Crafts Teacher for Valley Park Activity Board - Ongoing

Crafts Teacher for Valley Park Activity Board - Ongoing

Valley Park Activity Board focuses on programs and activities that serve the children and families of Cardinal Valley, a culturally rich and diverse neighborhood with a large number of low-income families.  They work in connection with the Cardinal Valley Elementary PTA as well as the Jesse Higginbotham Technology Trust. “Our goal is to provide safe, healthy, educational and recreational opportunities for our kids.”

They have been fortunate to have Bluegrass Youth Ballet start a very successful outreach dance program, but since many of the families walk to the center, they are concerned that enrollment may decline in the winter. To combat this, they started hosting free crafts workshops for the families as they wait for their children to finish class. The mothers are learning to crochet, while waiting siblings are busy with crafts.  Here’s where they need help! They just started offering these classes this week and already have 16 participants. They are looking for volunteers to help with the current classes, and possibly start more classes.  The current classes are taught on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at the Jesse Higginbotham Neighborhood Center in Valley Park. They provide all materials free to the families to encourage them to participate.

Additionally, as they look into winter break activities, they would like to offer a variety of free day classes from December 18 through January 1 at the Neighborhood Center. The Park Activity Board will be meeting on November 18th at 5:30pm at 2077 Cambridge Drive to begin discussing this.
