Light the Night Walk – Oct 18th

Light the Night Walk – Oct 18th

Attention all Transylvania students, faculty and staff! Many of you may know about Transy Alum Torsie Haugli and her battle with Leukemia and Lymphoma. Whether you joined the support team for Torsie on her diagnosis date or after purchasing a delicious baked good at the wildly successful bake sale hosted by the ladies of Tri-Delta and Phi Mu, all of your efforts are greatly appreciated. Now another chance to pitch in has arrived.

Come support Transylvania Alum Torsie Haugli and others currently diagnosed with Leukemia and Lymphoma by participating in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk on October 18th, 2014 at 7:30pm in the Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

An excerpt from the Team Torsie page at http://www.lightthenight.org/:

“On the morning of her college graduation, Torsie was taken to the ER in Lexington, KY for severe pain and a high fever. She was then transferred to the Cleveland Clinic, where she has remained, and was diagnosed with Anaplastic Large T-Cell Lymphoma ALK Positive with Leukemic involvement. She underwent chemotherapy and was responding well enough to have her bone marrow transplant. Just days before the transplant, doctors discovered a brain tumor. She continued chemotherapy until the tumor stopped responding to treatment, and has since begun radiation.

Your involvement in the Light the Night Walk as either a participant, a donor, or as both help the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society make cures happen. Amazing and inspirational young men and women benefit from your efforts and support.

For a more hands-on method of assistance to those enduring the life-altering effects of Leukemia and Lymphoma, sign up to volunteer for the Light the Night Walk. Volunteers are needed for all aspects of the Walk from 9:00am that morning to 9:00pm that night; individuals are needed to set up, greet participants, light luminaries, manage the general store or concession area, assist with volunteer check-in, hand out lanterns or t-shirts, and to monitor the children’s area. With around 80 positions to fill, volunteering is encouraged.

To volunteer, please contact Emily Rives at (859) 226-0764 or by email. To donate, please visit the Team Torsie page or click here to search for another team. Thank you!
