National History Day-State Competition - April 27

National History Day-State Competition - April 27

The Kentucky Junior Historical Society is hosting the State History Day contest on Saturday, April 27, from 8:30 am-1pm at the University of Louisville Student Activities Center in Louisville KY.  Volunteers serve as judges to determine which students qualify for the opportunity to compete in the national competition. Over 500 6th-12th grade student contestants from across Kentucky  have been working the entire academic year doing original research to develop an exhibit, performance, documentary, website, or paper for this event.

Judges will receive information about the process in advance of the contest day and will have training the morning of the contest. Prior content knowledge is not required so judges do not have to be social studies or history teachers to be involved. Lunch is provided. Those selected to represent Kentucky will compete against 3000 students from across the United States at the University of Maryland in June  2013.  For more information or to sign up to serve as a judge, contact Phyllis Gilman at Phyllis.gilman@ky.gov or call 564-1792.
